More than 400 scholars will take part in III International Congress of Belarusan Studies

Third International Congress of Belarusan Studies will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania, on October 11-13, 2013 and is to gather more than 400 scientists, experts, analysts and intellectuals from 25 countries.

The organizers of the Congress inform that the draft program of the event is already ready. Among the speakers at the Congress such famous scientists as Adam Maldzis, Belarusan literature scholar, Arnold McMillin, British literature analyst, and Fr. Alexander Nadson from London, who is involved in Bible research.

The Congress will work within 14 sections, each of which will draw in 30 and more experts.

Section of Economics will invite experts form Belarusan universities and independent centers; thus, such experts as Alexander Chubrik and Sergei Chaly will be present.

Section of Politics and International Relations also looks impressive this year, with such names as Viachaslau Pazdniak, political scientist and PhD in philosophy; Andrei Yahorau, the Head of the Centre for European Transformation; Dzianis Melyantsou, political scientist Valery Karbalevich and many others.

The work of some sections will be dedicated to the legacy and history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, as well as Belarusan history of 19th and 20th century, history of Jewish community in Belarus and historical representation of Belarusans in Baltic States.

It will be for the first time when the Sections of Sociology will be present.

“I should say that the Congress is now oriented not only on Belarusan studies, but rather at learning Belarus within the whole region; i.e., to compare Belarus with other countries and invite foreign specialists. Let me recall that the topic of this Congress will be Northern Dimension; and that is why we tried to invite more people from the Baltic States and from Scandinavia,” noted Andrei Kazakevich, the director of the Institute for Policy Studies Palіtychnaya Sphera (Political Sphere) and one of the heads of the Congress’ organizing committee .

Within the scale of the event the Award of the Congress for the best scientific publication through 2011 and 2012 will be given in three nominations: history, social and political studies, humanities. The nominees were selected by large sections of experts. The results will be announced during the Congress.
