The head of the Legal Transformation Center (Lawtrend) received a response from the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Belarus.

“I’ve just received a response from the Ministry of Interior of Belarus to my request to reduce the period of the ban on entry into Belarus,” Elena Tonkacheva wrote yesterday in her Facebook account. “The petition is denied. The letter is dated February 15 — the day sanctions were lifted. <...> In addition, they kindly warned about criminal responsibility for attempting to enter and remain on the territory of the Republic of Belarus for a period of up to three years in prison.”

Let us recall that the human rights activist was prescribed to leave Belarus in November 2014 by the Department of Internal Affairs of Pershamaiski district in Minsk. Elena Tonkacheva can’t enter the country in the next 3 years.

On February 21 Elena Tonkacheva had to leave the country, where she has lived for 30 years.

7 thousand signatures were gathered under the request not to deport Elena Tonkacheva from Belarus; however, it didn’t change the decision of the authorities. The official reason for this decision of the authorities lied in administrative offences in the form of minor speedings while driving registered by cameras.
